- Matter accessories require a SwitchBot bridge device to connect to ecosystem platforms.
- When the Matter specification is updated, there’s no need to upgrade the accessory’s firmware. Instead, updating the bridge device’s firmware will enable support for new features.
What is a Matter bridge?
A Matter bridge is a CSA-certified intermediary device that acts as a "protocol translator." It enables non-Matter SwitchBot devices (e.g., those using Bluetooth or proprietary protocols) to join the Matter ecosystem by converting their signals into Matter-compatible communication. For SwitchBot products, a Matter bridge simplifies integration: it connects legacy devices to the Matter network, allowing them to work with third-party platforms (like Apple Home or Alexa) once paired with a platform-specific controller/hub. If your device isn't listed in Matter, please follow the troubleshooting steps below:
1) Confirm the prerequisites.
Make sure your device supports Matter over Bridge through a compatible Hub device.
Compatible SwitchBot Hubs:

- SwitchBot Hub 2
- SwitchBot Hub 3
- SwitchBot AI Hub
Also ensure:
- The device is added and online in the SwitchBot app.
- The device is paired with one of the hubs listed above.
