The "When" and "And" of Automation

When (conditions)

1． Immediate adjustments are necessary to meet the conditions stipulated in the "When" clause.

For instance, if you specify "SwitchBot Meter temperature above 20.0°C" in the "When" section, the condition "SwitchBot Meter temperature surpasses 20.0°C" is met when the temperature detected by the SwitchBot Meter increases from 19.5°C to 20.5°C - in other words, it must go beyond the 20°C mark. If the temperature has been at 22°C since the time of setting the condition, the automation will not activate.

2． Multiple conditions can be added.

If multiple conditions are set, the system will act upon the fulfillment of any one condition. Subsequently, it will either look to establish the "And" precondition (if one has been designated), or directly initiate an action (if no precondition has been outlined).

And(precondition)

1． The preconditions appended with "and" correspond to the status of the device or any other device.

For instance, setting the condition "SwitchBot Meter temperature ≥ 20.0°C" to "and" satisfies the precondition if the temperature detected by the SwitchBot Meter is equal to or exceeds 20°C.

2． Multiple preconditions can be added.

2.1 With numerous prerequisites at play, action will only be activated when all of these prerequisites - or ‘"preconditions" - are satisfied, alongside the conditions specified under "When".

Examples are given below:

When: SwitchBot Meter temperature of 20.0°C or higher.
And: validity 08:00~10:00 and at home
The action is executed when the smartphone is situated at home, the time falls between 08:00 and 10:00, and the temperature measured by the SwitchBot Meter exceeds 20°C. This occurs when both the "And" precondition and the "When" condition are satisfied.
The action will not be executed if the smartphone is at home, and the time is between 8:00 and 10:00, and the SwitchBot Meter consistently detects a temperature of 24°C. (Automation is not triggered as the "And" precondition is satisfied, but the "When" condition is not met).

2.2 With multiple preconditions in place, the action will be executed if any of these preconditions are fulfilled. To clarify, the action will be initiated when any of these specified "When" preconditions are met.

Examples are given below:

When: SwitchBot Meter temperature 20.0°C or higher
AND: expiry time 08:00~10:00 OR you are at home
The action is initiated when the smartphone is detected at home, and the temperature registered by the SwitchBot Mete surpasses 20°C.
The action is performed between 8:00 and 10:00 when the temperature recorded by the SwitchBot Meter exceeds 20°C.

3． If you do not need it, you do not have to include "And".
